About the app

Yes — Abacus Kids is free to download and play. Kids get full access to Level 1, the first three chapters of Level 2 and times tables ×1–×3 at no cost, no card required. Upgrade to Premium anytime to unlock all 8 levels, every exam and exercise type, all math games, and full progress history.

Abacus Kids is designed for children aged 4 to 14. Level 1 starts with the very basics — meeting the abacus and counting beads — and the app gradually advances through 8 practice levels, so it suits complete beginners as well as kids who already know some abacus.

No. The app has a fully interactive virtual abacus built in. Your child can learn, practice, and take exams entirely within the app — no physical equipment needed.

There are 8 abacus practice levels, progressing from basic single-digit addition all the way to multi-digit multiplication and division, plus a 4-level guided Learning Path from bead basics to mental math. Practice Level 1 is free, Level 2 is partly free (the first 20 pages), and Levels 3–8 are Premium.

Yes. The app includes detailed progress reports showing completed levels, exam scores, accuracy, and speed — so parents always know how their child is doing.

Learning

They are the two complement rules that make abacus arithmetic work. Small Friend uses 5: when there are not enough earth beads to add 4, you add 5 and take away 1. Big Friend uses 10: when a rod is full, you add 10 on the next rod and take away the complement (for +8, take away 2). Level 2 teaches both, and the Family formulas that combine them.

Anzan is mental calculation using an imagined abacus. After enough practice on the real (or on-screen) abacus, children can picture the beads and move them in their head. Level 3 trains this in five modes, from a guided series with the abacus visible, to watching the abacus update automatically, to numbers flashing on screen with no abacus at all.

Yes — the Learning Path is sequential, but Level 1 is short. A child who can already set any number to 99 on an abacus can move through it quickly and start Level 2, where the first three chapters are also free.

Ten to fifteen minutes a day works far better than a long weekly session. One Learning Path lesson or one 20-problem practice set, plus a game, is a complete session. The Daily Streak badges are designed around this rhythm.

Abacus Practice is the drilling companion to the Learning Path. Its 8 levels progress from direct single-digit addition through multi-digit addition and subtraction, the Small Friend, Big Friend and Family formulas, and on to multiplication and division. Each level contains a list of pages, each page a list of sets, and every set has 20 abacus problems. Sets come in three types — Step by Step, Final Answer and Formal Exam — and some include a timer. Formal Exam results are saved, so you can see them immediately and look back at them any time. Level 1 is free, Level 2 is partly free (the first 20 pages), and Levels 3–8 are Premium.
